Since it’s the winter break, and we’ve been spending SO much quality time together, I thought I’d give them a special treat and let them watch the movie “Titanic.” At least, I thought it was a special treat. Turns out my children have much higher expectations of cinema than I do.
After the movie was over, I asked, “what did you think? Did you like it?”
ST: No. It was kinda scary.
GT: No it wasn’t! It was borrrrrring!
ST: No, it wasn’t! It was scary because there was water EVERYWHERE and then the people in the water died and when they died they were in the water all frozen and they looked like DOLLS!
GT: You’re wrong! It was boring. It just went on and on. There was only two good parts. The part with the guy shooting and the part where there was Irish dancing.
ST: That’s not what it was about! What’s it called when people are trying to find stuff that’s hidden? In the ocean? Any way, a guy was looking for a sparkly blueish purplish necklace thing and there was an old lady that had it once when she was naked. They were on a boat, and it turns out she had the necklace the whole time and she threw it in the ocean because she didn’t want to remember the mean guy that hit her!
GT: (sighs) No, it was about a big boat that falls apart. And people screaming. But mostly a big, big, borrrrrring boat. If someone I knew wanted to watch it, I’d just go bye-bye. Or maybe take a nap. And I don’t even like naps!
